Anne Rowling Clinic supports vaccinations of nearly 10,000 NHS staff

The Anne Rowling Clinic, on Edinburgh BioQuarter, has helped in the fight against the pandemic by hosting the NHS Lothian staff vaccine clinics.

Nearly 10,000 NHS and social care employees have passed through the doors of the Clinic to receive their second dose of COVID vaccine. Over the last 12 weeks, five clinic rooms were released to the vaccine programme which operated between 7am and 9pm, including over weekends.

The vaccinators were a mix of Anne Rowling Clinic doctors and nurses and NHS staff redeployed to the vaccination programme or volunteering in their own time.

At the peak of the programme the Clinic welcomed over 350 NHS key workers a day.

To help the clinics run smoothly, Anne Rowling Clinic staff, University of Edinburgh medical students and NHS volunteers welcomed those receiving their vaccines and helped direct them to the waiting areas and vaccinators.

Anne Rowling Clinic Manager, Judy Newton, facilitated the vaccinations to run from the Clinic building said, ” The vaccination programme has been a great example of NHS and University of Edinburgh integrated working. When approached to consider hosting the vaccination programme we were delighted that our clinic environment could be utilised in this way. Our team of doctors, nurses and research practitioners have joined forces with NHS colleagues throughout the pandemic and therefore taking part in the vaccination programme was a natural and seamless collaboration.

I’m very grateful to everyone across the NHS and University who helped facilitate the vaccinations running so smoothly.”

In addition to hosting the vaccine programme, the Clinic has continued to run essential NHS clinics as well as vital research studies and clinical trials.

The final NHS staff vaccination clinic took place on Tuesday 13th April.
