National Life Sciences conference sees the Launch of the Covid-19 Strategic Response Plan

This year’s national Life Sciences Conference, to be hosted virtually on December 3rd, will see the launch of the Scottish Life Sciences Covid-19 strategic response plan.

Dave Tudor and Ivan McKee MSP, co-chairs of the Life Sciences Industry Leadership Group, will announce the key themes of the strategy that will build on the sector’s remarkable response to Covid-19 so that patients have access to new and existing treatments and services and the sector continues to grow.

The plan is set to emphasise the need to enshrine the engagement between industry, Government, NHS and academia as a cornerstone for future working. The strategy will also describe the importance of digital, data and a pipeline of relevant skills for the growth of all areas of the life sciences industry.

Within the Scottish Life Sciences Covid-19 Strategic Response Plan, there are three priority areas of focus which the Industry Leadership Group believe represent the biggest opportunity to help Scotland’s people, industry and economy:

  • Pharmaceutical supply chain and innovation
  • Health Technology
  • Animal Health, Agritech and Aquaculture

The specific areas of focus within these priorities will be described in the plan itself and discussed at this year’s conference through an afternoon of panel sessions with industry leaders including the ABPI, the ABHI, the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, the UK Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult, the Digital Health Institute and the DataLab.

The ILG is now working in partnership with companies, government, the NHS and academia to agree and implement the action plans that will build on the momentum created through the outstanding response to Covid-19 demonstrated by the Scottish life sciences sector.
