What is health data? How does information about people’s health help to inform public health policy decisions? And how is data kept safe and secure? Professor Aziz Sheikh will answer all these questions and tell us more about the health data that helped his team figure out how effective the first doses of Covid-19 vaccine were. He’ll be joined by Dr Eleftheria Vasileiou, whose research uses health data from across Scotland to track the Covid-19 pandemic. We’ll also hear by video from members of the public involved in the study and what it means for them.

Speakers
Professor Aziz Sheikh is one of the most experienced data scientists in the world. He is Director of the University of Edinburgh Usher Institute, where he leads teams of public health researchers whose work has helped guide us through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Eleftheria Vasileiou is a public health researcher who uses health data to try to predict the best vaccination programme to protect people from seasonal flu, particularly those with asthma and Covid-19.

Sandra Jayacodi advises research scientists on how best to include public and patient voices in their research.
